Today I talked to Mrs. Boutilier about my project idea and she helped guide me to what I should do in this project. She decided that narrowing down the newsletter to only a couple capstone projects per issue and do something else I am passionate about like art and other creators. Since this is such a big task to take on she suggested I make others work for me.
September 6, 2018
Today I confirmed the idea of making a newsletter based off people´s capstone projects and include other local creators.
September 7, 2018
After giving some thought into what I should do, I decided that what would be best is to have people write up what they do in their capstone, any upcoming events they have, etc. Then I will submit their project in the issue and display it online.
September 8, 2018
I found someone that I want to be my capstone mentor. Previously this summer I did a photography class program and throughout the summer I thought about doing something regarding photography. Over 6 weeks I learned so much from her and would genuinely enjoy getting the chance to learn more from her and having her help me along on this journey.
September 10, 2018
Originally, I wanted to do a documentary for my capstone project, but I decided against it because I wanted it on such an important topic that I was unable to do at this time. Now I´ve been playing with the idea of turning my project into a documentary or an artifact. When I work I could record it, when I take the pictures of people I could document that, when I work with my mentor I could use that also. I´ve always wanted to do a documentary and right now I´m deciding on if I want to take on such another big workload.
September 25, 2018
I scheduled a meeting with my mentor on Thursday (September 27), to further discuss my project idea and where to go from there. Today I decided that I’m going to also do a documentary and try to do at least two newsletters. I want to focus those just on capstone projects.
September 27, 2018
I had the meeting with my mentor, Leslie, at 5:00pm. We discussed meeting once a month on a Thursday to review the photos and footage I use in my newsletters and documentary. She also wants me to help her create templates for her photography business to also send out newsletters for her clients. Since I would be doing work for her, I thought I could use that time as community service hours.
October 3, 2018
I thought it would be a good idea to write and produce my own music for my documentary. I started working on a song for a struggle kind of moment when I show the struggles and stress and pressure of capstone. I believe that in order to make a good documentary, you need good music. The music is what tells you how to feel, what persuades your thoughts. In order to avoid legal issues, I realized that making my own music will make things a whole lot easier, even though there is a lot of work that goes into making music. I have enough drive to get it done, I think of my capstone project as something I've always wanted to do. This is what I want to do for a living/hobby, making films, making music, writing, photography, I want to do all of that, but right now it's me taking that first step and really doing it.
October 5, 2018
I’ve been working on music for my documentary which is helping me shape the visual of how I want my documentary to turn out. I’ve also been working on the script and the questions for my documentary.
October 22, 2018
I have finished most of the script for my documentary. Right now I’m stuck with the questions because I think with each person I’m gonna have slightly different questions since everyone has a different project.
October 23, 2018
I feel like I’m stuck right now in my project because I feel like I haven’t being doing much which is due to not using my class time efficiently and working so much after school and on the weekends I can’t find time to really get my project in motion. I’ve been slowly working on multiple things in between when I have time even if I have to stay up until 2 am most nights just to get things done.
October 24, 2018
I finally finished the capstone spreadsheet to go into capstone classes and have people fill it out so I can contact them about interviewing them and their events.
October 25, 2018
Today i’m gonna print out five spreadsheets for each capstone class and email the capstone teachers to go into their classrooms next week and get everyone to sign up on the sheets for me so I can finally start moving forward in my documentary and newsletter
November 7, 2018
Andrew held his Pancreatic cancer walk and I got some footage of people walking and receiving their bracelets.
November 8, 2018
I had a meeting with my mentor over Face Time to go over and discuss the first issue of my newsletter. I pulled together some information and put it in a newsletter template. I'm planning to release the first issue after Christmas vacation and feature at least for capstone projects.
November 9, 2018
I worked some more on the music for the documentary.
November 14th, 2018
I went online to look for backdrops for the interviews. I realized I didn't want to use the green screen in the studio because it wouldn't give a good depth of field between the person and the background. I have an idea of what I want everything to look like when I do the interview.
November 19th, 2018
I´ve been looking up more about how to create a documentary and how it should look and the audio and editing effects and transitions I can use to make it more interesting for people to watch. I purchased the backdrop and I got a cord so I can setup two mics (lav and external) for the interview.
December 8th, 2018
I went to go to Johnny's dinner but got there too late. It was scheduled for 12:00pm-4:00pm, I arrived at 1:30pm and the function was already over. This made me realize that I have to start planning for things better, taking the drive there into consideration. I put the address into my gps and was brought to West Hartford instead of the shelter in Hartford. I was disappointed about missing the function because I was excited to finally get a start on my project and get things going. I feel that Johnny had a really important project because he was helping out the homeless. I was able to at least get footage of the location to use in the documentary for when I interview Johnny.
December 11th, 2018
I went to Juan´s capstone and recorded him and some other acts. He volunteered at a school that had performing arts programs that they were able to participate in and he taught a group of little kids how to dance. It was entertaining to see him do that and other people volunteer their time to these kids. I believe that the arts has a big influence on kids and helps their creativity. It is good to see that schools are still providing students with that and not only focusing on the academics.
December 13th, 2018
I went to Johnny´s and Crystals capstone and recorded their project. They took over the choices matter program, they both were affected by drunk driving in their lives so it was important for them to raise awareness for this cause. I was able to get both of them talking about their own stories and then I got some footage of the man who started this program telling his own story and experience from being a drunk driver. After the talk was over we went over to the drunk driving simulation and I got footage of people using it and I also got footage of people using the drunk goggles and trying to walk in a straight line.
December 17th, 2018
I have been using any free time I have to get started on producing the music I´ll be using in the documentary. I have been able to develop the tone of the documentary I want through the music which has helped influence me on how I want it to look and what kind of questions I want to ask students when I interview them.
December 19th, 2018
My package finally delivered today. I got the backdrop and the wire for the two mic setups.
December 24th, 2018
I was able to finish three songs for the documentary that I will be using in the film. These songs that i´m making are short and not fully produced since I will be using them for only 30 seconds at a time or even shorter. I want to try and make this project all of my work put into it, from the music to the interview, to getting footage. I want to try my best to make most of this just mine and not use other people's work.
December 31st, 2018
I attended the Roberto Clemente capstone project over break. I made sure that I got to this one on time, right when it started I was there. I was able to go around and get footage of everything they had there. I recorded most of the people that got up and talked. I recorded the dancing, the raffle, the videos, some of the powerPoint. I tried to get as much footage that I could use in the documentary.
January 2nd, 2019
My plan is to get at least one interview done this week no matter what. I need to start grinding and get going on my project before it becomes too late and I run out of time. A lot of people are starting to finish their projects and I´m here stuck and wasting my time. This next semester I want to stay on top of things and really talk to people and get my project done by early March and work on the actual editing and music and be done by April so I won't be falling behind.
January 3rd, 2019
I went downstairs first block to get set up my backdrops, and get all of the microphones and the camera set up. I think that the set up so far is good but the lighting still isn’t good enough. I did a test run of an interview on myself and it looks good and sounds good but the lighting just isn’t what I want. I tried to use the lights available in the studio, but they were just way too harsh for my liking. So tomorrow I’m gonna bring in my own lights to school that are soft boxes so i has a more flattering effect on the students i’m interviewing.
January 5th, 2019
I finally started doing interviews. I realized that setting up everything everyday takes me about 10-15 minutes which I have to be mindful of especially when interviewing multiple and if time cuts short and it’s time to change to the next block. Overall I think that the set up is good with the lights and the audio. The image of the documentary is starting to finally pull together and hopefully I will be able to successfully make what is in my head. I interviewed two students and it went really well honestly, the audio was good, the lighting was good, and I got good answers out of them.
January 6th, 2019
Working on music for the documentary is pretty hard. I want to be able to achieve bringing emotion and tone to the film. It’s hard for an amateur to be able to create their own soundtrack to their own first time documentary. I have creators block because I want everything to be perfect but it can’t and I need to relax and understand that. Any moment I feel inspired I try to go and work on music. Right now it’s really hard because my computer crashed on me and isn’t working so the music I was working on I still need to retrieve off of there. Currently I’ve been using Garage Band has a backup and once I get my computer fixed i’ll pull up those files into my software and mix and master them. I hope that I will be able to finish most of the music to my satisfaction and use them in the documentary. I hope that people will actually like the music along with the documentary. This is a piece of art that I’m sharing with everyone and that’s scary because I don’t actually feel ready to share, but at this point I don’t have a choice.
January 8th, 2019
Today I recorded two more students interviews. I think it went pretty well, I was able to come up with more questions than the ones I’ve written down which I think will help be an influence when interviewing people. The interview starts to become more like a conversation than just rapid conversations, I hope that after interviewing over 90 students I will become better at interviewing people and towards the end it will start to become easier.
January 10th, 2019
I've still be working on the music for my documentary. It's difficult making all of it on my phone instead of a computer. I have to learn how to be productive with my free time and get this project really going.
January 12th, 2019
I think soon I'm gonna start pulling together pieces for my documentary and get things finally going. I know what I have in mind for the project so I really need to just piece it all together.
January 20th, 2019
I haven't been that productive lately with my project, I think this is so much to do that I'm starting to shut down. The project is gonna get done, but it feels like a lot.
January 30th, 2019
I started making a spreadsheet for the senior class, I realized I only had about 50 of the students leaving over 40 of them I haven't even contacted yet. I should start reaching out to more seniors and figure out if they have any events coming up and see when I can record.
February 1st, 2019
I started to work on some templates for the newsletter. I've completely forgotten about the newsletters for my capstone project. Once I complete the template I think it will be pretty easy to put in the featured stories. I only want to release 3 issues and feature three seniors in each issue.
February 7th, 2019
I realized I need to set up a schedule for my project. I need to create a list and a time to work on all of these things for capstone. I need to take into consideration what time things can be done and take into account extra time for setup and editing.
February 12th, 2019
I want to start doing interviews three times a day. Some in first block, third block, and through lunch to the end of the day. I should be able to get my project done a lot quicker if I didn't waste time and chill or do work for other classes
February 13th, 2019
I started figuring out which people I want to feature in the first two issues of my newsletters. The people who worked really hard through capstone and who did really well. There is handful of people whose project I truly like and I believe should be recognized by others. When I get the chance to interview them it will make it easier to write up about their capstone and put it in the newsletter. I would like to write it up, send it to them and ask for them to add more of a personal note to it and then show it to Mrs. Zamorski before publishing the piece. The first issue I would like to release by March as long as I stay on track with the rest of my project and start using my time productively instead.
February 18th, 2019
I Interviewed 4 students today during first block and it went pretty well. The setup process is starting to get quicker.
February 20th, 2019
I interviewed 2 students during first block, wish I had more time sometimes it takes longer. Throughout the process I´m getting quicker with setting up and starting to add more questions when interviewing people especially if their project or event was interesting.
February 22nd, 2019
I finally got all the pieces for my computer today. After my computer crashed and broke I lost footage I saved and had to keep all my files on my camera and being careful not to lose any of them because I won't be able to get them back again. I decided to build my own computer so I can start editing the documentary at home and getting back into making music for the documentary at a much quicker pace because I'm more comfortable using my equipment than using a phone app.
February 25th, 2019
I interviewed some more people today, the interviews went pretty well. I was able to have more of a conversation with people than just asking question after question. I prefer those kinds of interviews. Some people don't have a lot to say about their project and i have to try and get more information from them by asking more questions. In the interviews it shows who works hard and enjoys what they do and others who are lost and did the project ultimately for a grade and to graduate.
February 28th, 2019
I interviewed a few more people. The interviews this time were kind of hard to pull through, some people barely have anything to say. I tried to shape my questions in a way that they aren't just a yes or no. I wanted a conversation between the person and I. I want the audience to know what exactly what they're doing for their project and how it went.
March 1st, 2019
I was only able to interview one person today because I came to school late and forgot to setup yesterday before I left home. I try to setup again at the end of the day to avoid cutting into time I can interview the person. I like to do it that way because it saves a lot of time especially if I´m late the following morning or if I´m busy trying to look for people to interview and only have 10 minutes before they come down and I don't want to waste their class time when they can be doing their own work.
March 4th, 2019
I did 2 more interviews this morning and they were probably the best ones I've done so far. They had a lot to say and I was interested in their projects. They were able to explain experiences they went through from their events or doing regular field work. It touched my heart knowing what they did for their projects.
March 11th, 2019
I finished building my computer so I can work at home for Capstone. This my first time building a computer on my own. It was a long process because there was a lot of things I was clueless on and I had to figure most of it out on my own when I came to a roadblock. I set all of it up and got it up and running. I was proud of myself for doing it all on my own and now I can really start working on the documentary and creating more music.
March 14th, 2019
I interviewed 2 more people for the documentary and they were good but I'm realizing how time consuming they can be especially with the deadline for the ePortfolio coming up soon and I barely have a website put together
March 22nd, 2019
I decided to take a break from doing interviews and start focusing on completing my ePortfolio to make the deadline for the final draft and get a good grade on it. I´ve been slacking on this project and need to start working on the website because I have nothing on there. My capstone teacher came to me with the idea which is good because I was thinking the same thing. So i'm putting the documentary on hold until I pass the ePortfolio deadline.
Today I talked to Mrs. Boutilier about my project idea and she helped guide me to what I should do in this project. I Interviewed 4 students today during first block and it went pretty well. The setup process is starting to get quicker.

I interviewed 2 students during first block, wish I had more time sometimes it takes longer. Throughout the process I´m getting quicker with setting up and starting to add more questions when interviewing people especially if their project or event was interesting.

I interviewed a few more people. The interviews this time were kind of hard to pull through, some people barely have anything to say. I tried to shape my questions in a way that they aren't just a yes or no. I wanted a conversation between the person and I. I want the audience to know what exactly what they're doing for their project and how it went.

I did 2 more interviews this morning and they were probably the best ones I've done so far. They had a lot to say and I was interested in their projects. They were able to explain experiences they went through from their events or doing regular field work. It touched my heart knowing what they did for their projects.
